38% Indian Students are Worried About the Future of Jobs Because of AI: BrightCHAMPS

Edtech platform BrightCHAMPS has released what it claims to be the world’s largest student-led survey on AI in education. The report captures the voices of 1,425 students from 29 countries, including India, Vietnam, Indonesia, the UAE and the US.

The report uncovers deep concerns about the future. About 38% of Indian students, and 36% globally, worry about job security in an AI-driven world. In India, 63% of students surveyed use AI regularly, with ChatGPT emerging as the most commonly used tool.

The data also reveals a disconnect between use and understanding. Only 34% of students globally say they understand how AI works, and a significant 29% admit they don’t verify AI-generated answers. 20% admit to believing wrong answers from AI tools. In India, half the respondents struggle to identify whether an image or video is real or AI-generated.

Only 10% of students currently feel confident in their knowledge. 75% of Indian students believe AI education should be formally introduced in schools.  56% students said  they needed  help navigating the AI wave, and not just from schools or parents.

“This report is a window into how they’re using AI, what excites them, and what’s scaring them,”said Ravi Bhushan, Founder & CEO of BrightCHAMPS. “Most importantly, it tells us where we, as adults, educators, policymakers, and innovators, are falling short and what we need to do to make them truly future-ready. Our hope is that the #StudentsSpeakAI report will serve as an urgent call to action to everyone in the learning ecosystem”

Key findings challenge prevailing narratives around AI misuse among children. According to the report, 95% of Indian students say they’ve never used AI to cheat, mirroring a global figure of 86%. Instead, the majority report using AI for homework, classroom learning, and language support.

The report suggests that beyond technical tools, students are seeking guidance and frameworks that can help them think critically and use AI responsibly. In an age of rapid technological change, the message from students is clear: they want to be prepared, not policed.

Meanwhile, Google is now offering a free one-year subscription to Gemini 2.5Pro for students aged 18 and above in India. This comes as a recent Google-Kantar report revealed that 95% of students in India who use Gemini feel more confident in their daily lives.

Students could use Gemini  to get unlimited homework help, exam preparation, and writing assistance. The plan also includes expanded access to a full suite of our most advanced AI tools.

Students can get personal research assistance with Deep Research, organize notes with 5x higher limits in NotebookLM, brainstorm aloud with Gemini Live, create dynamic videos from text or photos with Veo 3 in Gemini and Flow, and also get AI assistance directly in their favourite Google Apps such as Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and more.
