A Bengaluru-based web developer’s incredible rise from rural hardship to a high-paying tech job has struck a deep chord with Reddit users, racking up thousands of upvotes and heartfelt responses. In an emotional and humble Reddit post, the 35-year-old man anonymously shared how he climbed from a monthly salary of Rs 5,000 to making Rs 46 lakh a year.
Born into a family of agricultural labourers, his childhood was anything but easy. At the age of seven, he and his elder brother stayed back in their village while their parents moved to Bengaluru, chasing a better life. His mother juggled two exhausting jobs. cleaning homes by day and working at a garment factory by night. “Her hands were always full, but her heart was even fuller, with love, grit, and the will to change our future,” he wrote, calling her his “real hero.”
Back in the village, he was raised by his grandmother and the brothers studied in government schools. Later, he joined a polytechnic college, not for the academics, but because it offered free food and a hostel. That choice ended up changing his life.
Thanks to his determination and his elder brother’s financial support (who, by then, had landed a job at Power Grid Corporation of India), he completed a B.Tech in Computer Science.
His first job paid just Rs 5,000 a month, but he didn’t lose sight of the bigger picture. “I stayed focused, kept learning, and embraced every challenge,” he shared.
Fast forward over a decade, and he now leads as an Engineering Manager at the same company he joined as a junior developer. “I haven’t switched companies,” he clarified. “Some people say that 46 LPA is common, but for me, it’s a significant achievement for my family.”
He added that he’s had the opportunity to travel to the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada — things that once felt like distant dreams. His family now owns land, has built a home, and owns a car — milestones that once felt unreachable.
The post quickly gained traction for its honesty and emotional depth. Reddit users flooded the comments with messages of support.
“Wonderful journey!! Hard work and focus pay rich dividends! Some comments that 46 is pretty common—seriously, folks… learn to appreciate the journey!!” wrote one user. Another Redditor said, “Inspiring, heart-warming, pleasant and well written post. Your gratitude to your family comes across. Salute to you and your family pillars.”
One user wrote, “U don’t know but your story feels like a great inspiration for me… Took a ss and will remind me everytime I fall back.”
