‘Future adults won’t find jobs due to AI,’ Reddit user shares why her husband backed out of having kids

How much effect will AI have over our lives? Taking away our jobs? That’s already happening. Challenging artists? We are starting to see cases arise. Deferring couples from planning family expansion? Might sound too extreme on paper but sadly, it has started to arise in reality. A viral post of Reddit shows the concerns of a 35-year-old woman over her husband scrapping plans of having a child, owing to the grim job market situation created by AI.

“He now believes there’s no point in having children because future adults won’t be able to find any kind of job due to AI,” she said. “Statistically speaking, it’s highly unlikely that our child would be one of the lucky exceptions in a world of desperation.”

AI replacing thousands of jobs per month:

A fresh analysis by outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas reveals that artificial intelligence is now driving thousands of job losses each month, adding to the strain on the U.S. employment landscape. In July 2025 alone, more than 10,000 layoffs were linked to the growing use of generative AI tools by businesses.

AI has become one of the top five causes of workforce reductions:

The firm reports that AI has become one of the top five causes of workforce reductions this year, with over 27,000 positions eliminated due to AI advancements since 2023. The tech sector has borne the brunt of these cuts, with widespread downsizing as companies increasingly shift toward automation.

“AI will absolutely disrupt jobs, but the idea that it will eliminate all meaningful work is not supported by evidence,” said Swapnil Kommawar, a trader and wealth advisor told Business Today. “There’s no historical precedent for a technological leap wiping out work entirely. New types of jobs always emerge.”

The woman later added an update, suggesting her husband’s gloomy outlook was likely driven by exhaustion and personal insecurity rather than firm beliefs.

“I spoke with my husband, and it seems he said those things during a moment of exhaustion and discouragement. He doesn’t want to give up on the idea of becoming a father—his words came from a place of fear. He’s just worried he might not be capable enough for the role. Anyway, thank you for your thoughtful observations!”
