Eyeing high-tech jobs, impressive salaries in US? This NYC neighbour is ‘city on rise’

Despite Washington DC being the US capital, New York City‘s synonymous global recognition status with the country almost instantly has us thinking of NYC before one has even finished speaking the word “America.” However, a different city currently seems to have become New York State’s talk. The upstate location in question is just a little under a 3-hour drive from NYC.

Hello, Albany!

A recent LinkedIn study put together a list of the “25 Cities on the Rise in the US Survey data indicated that nearly 46% of US workers live far from where they grew up. Career growth inevitably became a driving force inspiring their move elsewhere. The current market state has seen companies looking beyond big-city establishments, backed by visions of affordability.

And so, the LinkedIn study in question particularly shone the light on mid-side US cities that boast undeniable job market presence and professional communities. Analysing the professional platform’s exclusive labour market data, the survey focussed on emerging metro areas with booming hiring, job postings and talent migration.

New York City neighbour is 4th US city on the rise due to job openings, salaries

Albany, which is the Capital of New York State, came in at No 4 due to its growing stance as a hub for high-tech jobs and semiconductor research. Professional services, healthcare and manufacturing emerged as top industries hiring in the area.

On top of that, University at Albany, located at 1400 Washington Ave, Albany, NY 12222, United States, had helped inject more than $1 billion into the local economy. Consequently, biotech company Regeneron, Albany Medical Center and the public university itself have soared high as top employers in the city, with the average income reaching nearly $72,000. The average home listing price, as detailed by the study, stands at $604,345 – a better option than NYC, as noted by the New York Post.

Siting at No 4, Albany came below Michigan’s Grand Rapids (for tech and insurance industries), Idaho’s Boise (again tech boom) and Harrisburg in Pennsylvania (small businesses, healthcare, tourism).
