TCS layoffs: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has confirmed that over 12,000 employees will be laid off by early next year, just weeks after the introduction of its controversial new benching policy. The development has triggered fresh anxiety across the IT sector, where fears of job cuts are compounded by the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence.
Social Media Reacts to Job Market Concerns
On Reddit, discussions about the layoffs have been trending, with many questioning what the future holds for the affected workers. One post that gained considerable traction asked: “What will those 12,000 laid-off TCS employees do now?”
One user wrote, “Some of them will join other companies. However there aren’t enough vacancies for everyone. If it were microsoft, the brand name is good and they have an edge over tcs employees in terms of securing jobs”
Another added, “Age 50+. Drop out of the workforce.
45+. 80% Screwed. 20% will find something out of which 50% will quit in a few years.
40+ 50% screwed. 50% will find something.
30+ Will manage something but will never take an EMI ever in their lives. House/Car whatever.
20+. Second chance in life to be serious about up skilling.”
Different Perspectives on Coping with Layoffs
A third user said, “I have got laid off atleast 3 times in career of 15 years. I found something every time. I work in startups. They will be fine. TCS name helps on resume.”
A fourth commented, “You can broadly bucket them into 2 categories – need to find work desperately due to no savings and debt and expenses and not need to find work desperately.
Folks who are desperate will probably end up working on contracts or take paycuts and work in support or night shift kind of roles, or take up openings in other cities wfo roles where there isn’t enough local talent.
Others will not want to take paycuts and stay unemployed for a few months or so and eventually retire (forced retirement) or after a few months end up becoming desperate.”
The layoffs come at a time when IT professionals are grappling with shrinking job opportunities and an industry-wide shift toward automation and AI-driven operations.
