Called 'Lazy' And 'Replaceable', Employee Quits Mid-Shift; Handwritten Note Goes Viral

In the high-pressure world of modern workplaces, sudden resignations are nothing new, but the way one employee recently quit has left the internet both amused and divided. According to a post shared on Reddit by user u/cheeseballgag, the employee in question walked out for a break in the middle of a shift and never returned. Later, colleagues discovered a handwritten resignation note left on an ordinary sheet of paper.

The letter, which began with the words “Today I have made my decision that June 20th will be my last day,” explained that while the writer’s journey as a manager had been good, there were disagreements he could no longer overlook. The biggest grievance? Being called “lazy” and “replaceable”, despite claiming to be the most trusted manager on the team.

The bluntness of the note quickly caught the attention of social media users. Some praised the writer’s candour, while others criticised the decision to abandon the job mid-shift. The twist? A month later, the same company rehired the employee.

Employment lawyer Kelsey Zammet told Newsweek that in most US states, “at-will” employment laws allow either party to end the working relationship at any time, unless a contract or union agreement says otherwise. But she cautioned that while it’s legal to resign abruptly, it can have professional consequences – from damaging one’s reputation to losing future opportunities or references.

In roles involving security or critical responsibilities, leaving without a proper handover can even lead to accusations of policy violations.
