A Reddit user has shared how a simple change in their LinkedIn job search strategy turned weeks of silence into multiple interview calls within just a few days. The post titled, “I’ve cracked the code to landing interviews”, has drawn attention on the platform, details how filtering for newly posted roles with fewer applicants helped them break through the noise.
From Silence to Multiple Interview Calls
The user explained that they previously applied broadly to roles by searching their desired job title and submitting applications in bulk. Despite consistent effort, they weren’t receiving any responses or even visits to their portfolio page.
Everything shifted once they began narrowing their search to only jobs with fewer than 20 applicants and those posted within the past 24 hours. According to them, “Almost all of these were posted in the last hour and had few applicants, or weren’t promoted by hirer. Suddenly I got 5 requests for interviews within a week, and loads of hits on my portfolio page.”
Small Companies, Big Opportunities
The user noted that many of these roles were from lesser-known or niche companies, which may not appeal to everyone. Still, they emphasized that the strategy helped secure much-needed interview practice and boosted confidence after weeks of no progress.
Other Reddit users chimed in with similar experiences. One said, “Absolutely true, I only apply to jobs that have been posted in the last hour!” Another expressed frustration: “I’ve applied hundreds of jobs on LinkedIn over the past five years and have received nothing and I have two degrees and 20 years of work experience. Sucks.”
Not everyone found it easy to replicate, though. “To be honest in my line of positions im looking at it’s very hard to be in the top 20 or to find a position that was posted less than 24 hours ago,” another user pointed out.
