A software developer has shared his ordeal on Reddit after being terminated from a company just one month into the job, despite clearing a rigorous six-round interview process.
The professional, who had secured a hike from ₹4.2 LPA in hand to ₹6.5 LPA in hand, said he was hired as a backend developer and initially believed his work was being used in production. However, at the end of his first month, his manager allegedly told him, “We’re not using the code you’ve written.” Five days later, he was handed a termination letter without a clear explanation.
“Blank After Termination”
The developer, with two years of experience in Docker, AWS, Linux, Python, Node.js, and Golang, said the sudden decision left him shocked. “It’s been 15 days since then. I haven’t even started looking for a new job. I feel completely blank, like I’ve forgotten everything I know,” he wrote.
Adding to the confusion, the company reportedly stopped hiring for backend roles altogether shortly after his exit. “Which makes me question why they hired me in the first place if they weren’t sure,” he added.
Others Share Similar Experiences
His post drew support and similar stories from others who said they had faced abrupt terminations in startups. One user commented, “Brother, the same thing happened to me this Friday, the last working day. I had 2 years of full-stack experience, but since I was new, I took some time to finish my tasks while getting used to the workflow. Out of nowhere, I got a call saying I was on a one-month notice. Then suddenly, they told me that today was my last day, asked me to resign, and to return the laptop tomorrow — citing performance and company financial issues. I’m still in shock. I had already secured this job after a 1.6-year gap, and now it’s gone again. God knows who will hire me next. It’s a startup company.”
Another added, “I also found out after working for just 2 months. After my features were added in their latest update, they suddenly said I wasn’t performing well and asked me to resign. I’m a Java full-stack developer with 2 years of experience, and my package was 4.5 LPA. It’s not your fault, bro. I was shattered for a month too, wondering what I did wrong. Then I met many guys here in the PG, and they also had similar experiences with different companies.”
