Diageo India has rolled out a Carer’s Leave Policy, giving full-time employees up to five paid days annually to care for family members dealing with long-term health conditions, ageing needs, or disabilities. The leave can also be split into half-day increments, offering greater flexibility for those juggling work and home responsibilities.
The initiative is aimed particularly at India’s growing “sandwich generation”—employees who care for both children and elderly parents. By formalising caregiving support, the company seeks to ease one of the most pressing stress points in today’s multigenerational workforce.
“Colleagues should not have to choose between being present at home and progressing at work,” said Shilpa Vaid, CHRO, Diageo India. “This policy is our way of ensuring that employees feel supported in every role they play, inside and outside the workplace.”
The new leave policy joins Diageo’s existing progressive measures, including gender-neutral parental leave, pregnancy loss guidelines, and menopause support—reinforcing its push for a workplace that honours all stages of life. For employees, the move signals not just additional benefits, but a cultural shift towards care-centred employment practices.
