FedEx is letting go about 856 members of its workforce in Coppell, Texas. The global logistics firm is closing down the Texas facility in about five months. Therefore, the layoffs will begin in batches starting next month, that is, January 2026.
The company is reportedly shutting down the facility because its customer has decided to move its business to another location and function with the help of another third-party logistics firm. Therefore, the operations of FedEx Supply Chain Logistics & Electronics Inc. will be discontinued.
The employees have already been informed so that they would be prepared for the layoffs. While some of those impacted may explore other positions within the company, others have been assured severance as well as help in looking for other jobs, as per the company policy and eligibility.
Earlier this year, in April, FedEx had announced that during the period 9 May to 30 May, more than 200 employees would lose their jobs at FedEx, in Lebanon, in the Nashville area of Tennessee, US. The reason for the layoffs at the time was that the transportation, e-commerce and business services American multinational had stopped providing services to customers in Lebanon.
Efforts were reportedly made to re-assign employees to other FedEx facilities or help the impacted workers find other jobs within the organisation.
As in the case of the Coppell facility, the workers were warned of the layoffs well in advance so that they wouldn’t be shocked when the process began.
