JPMorgan Chase is planning to build Asia’s largest global capability centre (GCC) in Mumbai, a move that could eventually support around 30,000 employees and significantly expand the bank’s workforce in India. The proposed two million sq ft single-user campus in Powai will be developed in phases and is expected to be completed by 2029.
The planned centre underscores India’s growing role in JPMorgan’s global talent strategy, with the country increasingly housing critical technology, operations, data, risk and analytics teams that support the bank’s worldwide businesses. The expansion is expected to create a wide range of roles across software engineering, digital platforms, cybersecurity, data science, finance operations and corporate functions.
By consolidating teams at scale, the Powai campus is expected to offer employees access to larger, integrated work environments, cross-functional collaboration and long-term career opportunities within the organisation. As a dedicated campus, it will allow JPMorgan to design employee-centric workspaces, advanced technology labs, learning facilities and wellness amenities tailored to a large workforce.
The development follows recent hiring and expansion activity by the bank across Indian cities. JPMorgan has recently leased additional office space in Hyderabad and continues to scale teams in Mumbai and Bengaluru, reflecting sustained demand for skilled professionals.
Workplace experts say large GCC campuses such as this are reshaping employment patterns in India’s financial services sector, offering global exposure, skill mobility and leadership pathways for local talent. The choice of Powai also places employees close to established infrastructure, transport networks and educational institutions.
The campus is expected to incorporate sustainability-focused design and smart office technologies, aligning with evolving employee expectations around flexible, efficient and future-ready workplaces.
As multinational banks deepen their reliance on India-based teams, JPMorgan’s planned Mumbai campus highlights how global capability centres are becoming long-term employment engines rather than purely back-office operations.
