Employee gets fired for poor performance and taking too many sick leaves — feels awful and seeks help, gets thoughtful advice

A Reddit post shared by a recently fired 34-year-old shed light on the culture inside corporate America, where he claimed that he was fired in the middle of the day after his boss called him inside his cabin. He was told, as per the post, that his sick leave had made the company unsatisfied with his work and that they have decided to let him go.

He was given a 30-minute window, as he signed his exit papers in the same period while watching his computer access get blocked. The shock of the firing had not even settled in, and the security was already escorting him out of the building. He said everything happened so quickly that he could not fully understand what was going on. The man shared that this was the first time he had ever been fired in his life.

Why the employee was fired

He mentioned that he had worked at the company for around one year before losing his job. After thinking about it, he felt the role may not have been the right fit for him. He said he honestly tried his best and put in real effort at work. Despite his effort, he admitted he could not meet the company’s expectations. The day he was fired became his first day of unemployment.

How the job loss affected him

He shared that he felt overwhelmed by fear, anxiety, stress, loneliness, and uncertainty. The employee said he knows he needs to search for a new job next. However, he admitted he feels too mentally tired to even look at his resume right now. He reached out to the Reddit community asking for advice and emotional support. Many Reddit users replied by telling him that being fired does not define his worth.

Several commenters said job loss is common and happens to many people at least once. Some advised him to take a few days to rest and process his emotions before job hunting. Others suggested he see the firing as a sign to find a role that suits him better. A few users reminded him that health issues and sick leaves should not make him feel ashamed. Many commenters encouraged him to be kind to himself and not rush big decisions. The overall advice focused on healing first, then slowly moving forward with confidence.
