Employee hits ‘Reply All’ email option to expose boss’s WFH double standards and the office suddenly goes silent

A frustrated worker recently turned to the online forum r/AntiWork on the social platform Reddit to share his anger about what he described as blatant double standards at his workplace. The employee explained that although his company officially allows staff members to work remotely once a week with managerial approval, his supervisor routinely denies the request for most team members while enjoying the benefit herself.

According to the worker, he has spent several years at the organisation and has watched the policy being inconsistently enforced within his department. While other teams in the company appear to use the work-from-home option without difficulty, his boss frequently refuses such requests from her own staff. The justification she offers typically revolves around operational demands or the needs of the department, which she claims require employees to remain physically present in the office.

The situation recently reached a breaking point when the supervisor circulated another internal message declaring that her entire team would no longer be permitted to use the remote-work option. Feeling increasingly irritated by what he saw as an unfair practice, the employee decided to challenge the decision publicly through email. Instead of responding privately, he sent a message to the entire team asking why the policy seemed to apply differently to employees and their manager.

The email reportedly did not receive a response from the supervisor. Still determined to seek clarity, the worker escalated the issue by contacting a higher-ranking department leader through another email. In that message, he questioned why separate expectations appeared to exist for staff members and managers.

However, rather than receiving a detailed explanation, the response he received advised him to avoid making sweeping assumptions without knowing all the circumstances behind management decisions. This reaction left the employee even more confused and irritated, as he believed he had simply pointed out an obvious contradiction.

After sharing his experience online, numerous users on the discussion forum weighed in with their opinions. Many commenters argued that a workplace benefit controlled solely by one person cannot truly be considered a genuine perk. Others jokingly suggested creative ways to make the manager’s remote work days more inconvenient, including scheduling meetings on the days she planned to work from home.
