Internal tools designed to assist with software development sometimes generate incorrect or fabricated code segments. However, they also note that the systems often require repeated checks to ensure accuracy. In many cases, verifying the AI’s output takes longer than completing the task independently.

The pressure to adopt AI has also increased across teams. Employees say managers frequently ask whether tasks can be completed with AI tools. Some workers believe this expectation has led to rushed implementation of experimental systems that are still developing.

The complaints come during a period of major restructuring at Amazon. The company has reduced thousands of corporate roles while simultaneously investing heavily in AI infrastructure and automation technologies.

As companies experiment with generative AI in office work, Amazon’s experience highlights the early challenges of integrating automation into complex professional tasks. For many employees, the long-term impact of the shift remains unclear.
