Oracle layoffs begin? Employees say HR mails are already sent

New Delhi: Reports of layoffs at Oracle are starting to surface online, with employees across regions claiming they have begun receiving emails from their managers or HR teams. The company has not made an official announcement yet, but multiple posts on Reddit and TeamBlind suggest that job cuts may already be underway.

The development comes weeks after reports hinted at a large-scale reduction of up to 30,000 jobs. That earlier estimate came from TD Cowen, which flagged financial pressure linked to Oracle’s growing AI infrastructure spending. Now, employee chatter is adding a new layer to the story.

Oracle Employees claim emails and access cuts have begun

Several users on Reddit and TeamBlind say they were informed directly by managers or received formal emails.

One user wrote, “My manager also told today.” Another said, “Def happening. I was informed I am on the list by manager as a ‘courtesy’. Emails go out in morning with details.”

There are also claims about how the process is being handled. One post reads, “Badge, Slack, Zoom and VPN will be deactivated shortly after the email is sent.”

Some users pointed to timing differences across regions. One said, “For IDC [India Development Centre] it has started since 6am.” Another added, “India folks have started getting termination mails today from 6AM IST.”

Layoffs linked to rising AI spending pressure

The layoffs, if confirmed, may be tied to Oracle’s heavy investments in AI and data centres. From an early February report, according to TD Cowen, Oracle could cut between 20,000 and 30,000 jobs to free up $8 billion to $10 billion in cash.

The firm noted that Oracle’s infrastructure commitments now require around $156 billion in capital spending. That number has raised concerns among investors and lenders.

The report said, “Both equity and debt investors have raised questions regarding Oracle’s ability to finance this buildout.”

Banks have reportedly increased lending costs, and some data centre deals are struggling to secure funding. The pressure appears to be building at a time when Oracle is also working on major AI projects, including infrastructure tied to OpenAI.

What happens next remains unclear

Oracle has not confirmed the layoffs so far. The full scale and impact are still unclear.

Employee posts suggest a phased rollout across regions, including Canada, the US, Philippines, and India. One user wrote, “Layoffs in Uruguay and Canada happened today. US and Philippines up next.”

For now, the situation remains fluid. What started as speculation is now turning into something more visible, but official clarity is still missing.
