Singapore to track jobs and wages as it trains 10,000 AI-ready workers

Singapore’s Government will track employment stability and wage progression as it advances plans to train 10,000 “AI bilingual” workers under the National AI Impact Programme (NAIIP), placing workforce outcomes at the centre of its AI strategy.

Speaking on March 27, Josephine Teo said there is no single metric to measure the programme’s success. Instead, authorities will assess whether the economy continues to create and sustain quality jobs, while enabling workers to progress in wages and career opportunities.

The NAIIP aims to build AI fluency across both individuals and enterprises. Initial training programmes will focus on the accountancy and legal professions, equipping workers to apply AI in areas such as financial reporting, compliance monitoring, legal research, document review, and contract management. These programmes will be developed in collaboration with bodies including the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, the Singapore Academy of Law, and the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association.

Beyond workforce training, the programme also targets 10,000 enterprises over three years, offering grants to support AI adoption, including tools such as chatbots and market research solutions. A key focus is enabling small and medium-sized enterprises to access affordable, customisable AI tools without relying on costly bespoke systems.

Teo highlighted that defining a baseline “AI vocabulary” for different professions remains a challenge, noting that required competencies will vary across roles. She also pointed to growing concerns around the safety of emerging AI tools such as OpenClaw, stressing the need for certified, reliable solutions for enterprise use.

The initiative reflects a broader workforce strategy: ensuring that as AI adoption accelerates, job quality, employability, and wage growth remain intact.
