As Oracle began reducing its workforce, with nearly 30,000 employees laid off globally and another round expected within weeks, employees have taken to social media to speak about the emotional toll. However, one post, shared by an employee, is gaining significant attention for her positive outlook on the situation.
Claire Fontenot, who served as a Senior Technical Programme Manager for Product Development, took to LinkedIn to reflect on being affected by the layoffs. “‘Yikes’, I thought to myself, being one of the many many folks impacted by recent layoffs at Oracle. But it happens, and I will enjoy sleeping in this morning lolol,” she wrote.
‘Will enjoy the challenge of ambiguity’
“I will enjoy the challenge of ambiguity, the uncomfortable-ness of saying ‘I’m looking for a job’, but mostly (I think) the freedom of a rare opportunity to slow down and reflect on what I want to do next. All to say, hope everyone is doing okay!! I think it’ll be okay,” Fontenot added.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Fontenot had been with the company for nearly three years. Her post quickly gained traction online, with many users praising her composed outlook in the face of sudden job loss.
‘Today is your last working day’
The US-based tech giant fired 12,000 employees in India and 30,000 globally via an email sent at 6 am.
“We are sharing some difficult news regarding your position. After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organisational change. As a result, today is your last working day. We are grateful for your dedication, hard work, and the impact you have made during your time with us. After signing your termination paperwork, you will be eligible to receive a severance package subject to the terms and conditions of the severance plan. You will receive an email from DocuSign to your Oracle email address with details on your severance and termination date,” read a part of the email by the company, as reviewed by Business Insider.
Oracle has reportedly offered a severance package that includes 15 days’ salary for each year of service completed in India. This is in addition to one month’s unpaid wages up to the termination date, leave encashment, gratuity as per eligibility, and payment in lieu of a one-month notice period.
The company has also provided an additional two months’ salary as a top-up.
