A new national survey by Energage, in collaboration with USA TODAY, highlights the companies that are setting the standard for employee satisfaction in 2026. From mortgages to insurance and consulting, the top-ranked workplaces might not all be glamorous, but they’re clearly doing something right.
What Employees Value Most in a Workplace Today
The survey looked at organizations with at least 150 employees and evaluated them based on what workers value most, pay and benefits, leadership, sense of purpose, and appreciation, as per a USA Today report. Out of 2,375 companies surveyed throughout 2025, a total of 1,661 earned recognition for standing out in these areas.
Top 5 Best Companies to Work for in 2026
At the very top, five companies stood out as the best places to work among large employers. These include Fannie Mae and Fairway Home Mortgage Corp, both in the mortgage industry, along with Plante Moran, a certified public accounting and consulting firm. Rounding out the list are Progressive Insurance and The Baldwin Group.
Companies That Dominated the Rankings Two Years in a Row
These names may sound familiar, four of them also ranked in the top five in 2025, showing consistent performance when it comes to employee experience.
Breakdown of Top Workplaces by Company Size
The rankings are part of the “USA TODAY Top Workplaces” awards, which categorize companies by size, from those with fewer than 499 employees to those with more than 2,500. The top 100 employers in each category are ranked, with additional winners listed alphabetically.
What Makes a People-First Workplace Stand Out
According to Energage CEO Eric Rubino, earning a spot on the list reflects more than just good business results. He said that, “Earning a Top Workplaces award is a celebration of excellence,” adding, “It serves as a reminder of the vital role a people-first workplace experience plays in achieving success,” as quoted by USA Today.
