'Rs 3 LPA is not that bad': Pune man shares reality of entry-level jobs, sparks debate

Starting a career often feels like standing at a crossroads with no clear map. Should freshers wait for the perfect high-paying job, or step into whatever opportunity comes first just to begin building experience? In today’s competitive job market, this question is becoming more common than ever among young graduates.

This ongoing debate has gained fresh attention after a video from a young professional in Pune started circulating widely on social media. In the video shared on Instagram, Nihar Patil shared his thoughts on entry-level jobs and why he believes a Rs 3 lakh per annum (LPA) offer should not be ignored.

Patil said, “3 LPA Job is not that bad. Don’t hate me for saying this. But let me tell you something. In today’s market, even those jobs are not easily available. I am saying this because I have started from there. That phase helped me understand what I am good at and what I am not. Everybody starts from somewhere.”

A first job, according to him, is less about the salary figure and more about learning how the professional world actually works. It is during this phase, he suggests, that freshers understand whether a field suits them or not. He explained this further, saying, “That first job teaches you basics of IT, office culture and whether the domain you are actually working in is worth it or not.”

Patil also pointed out something many young professionals often overlook, financial discipline. According to him, early salaries help people learn how to manage limited income, track expenses and develop basic money habits that stay useful in the long run.

At the same time, he addressed a growing trend among freshers who aim directly for high-paying jobs without considering entry-level roles. He believes this mindset can sometimes delay career growth instead of accelerating it.

He said that many young professionals today want to immediately reach salaries of Rs 1 lakh or Rs 2 lakh per month, but according to him, the focus should not be on package alone, but on employment itself. He further added that career growth does not happen instantly, but is built through consistent learning and experience over time.

He also said that moving from a Rs 3 LPA job to Rs 15 LPA is not impossible, but the journey helps in developing skills, clarity, patience and confidence.

In his caption, he summed up his perspective writing, “Don’t chase salary first. Chase learning and experience.”

After the video went viral, it quickly turned into a discussion point among social media users. Many agreed with his viewpoint and shared their own early career experiences. One user said, “love this perspective.” Another commented, “Yess, truly right.” A third wrote, “Yes, that is where my career began. I agree.”

One more user added, “Yes, I totally agree. I also started my job with a salary of Rs 30,000 per month. In today’s job market, having a job itself is the biggest blessing.”

Some users raised practical concerns about low salaries and real-life challenges. One user said, “It’s not that bad until you have to relocate.” Another added, “A 3 LPA job is not good if you have been working for more than 8 years. Also, in the name of interviews, some companies take your work through assignments and use the ideas. They sometimes prefer hiring freshers so they can avoid paying experienced professionals more.”
