ASML boosts Taiwan hiring target to 1,000

ASML, a Netherlands-based semiconductor equipment supplier, said on May 25 it plans to hire 1,000 additional staff in Taiwan this year, up from an earlier target of 600.

The move comes in response to growing client demand.

ASML Taiwan general manager Grace Wang said the company has more than 4,500 employees in Taiwan, about 10% of its global workforce.

The new roles will focus on customer support, manufacturing, and supply chain work.

ASML said Taiwan is its largest site in Asia, with manufacturing and support operations across several cities.

Linkou handles tool refurbishment, deep ultraviolet (DUV) reticle-handler production, and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) collector cleaning, while Tainan is a customer support hub.

The company is also building a new facility in New Taipei.

The NT$30 billion (US$954 million) project could begin operations in 2026 at the earliest and house about 2,000 employees in its first phase, according to a 2023 report.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is thought to be one of ASML’s largest clients and uses its EUV tools to make advanced chips.

ASML also said more than 1,600 of its customer support engineers are based in Taiwan, mainly serving TSMC.

The hiring push comes amid a tight labor market, with a recent analysis estimating 22,820 unfilled semiconductor engineering roles in Taiwan between Q3 2022 and Q2 2023.
