'I wanted 20% hike': Employee turns Rs 4 LPA into Rs 12 LPA job after editing payslip, viral post sparks debate

A viral post by Instagram influencer Anmol Garg has triggered fresh conversations around salary negotiations, fake payslips, and unethical hiring practices in the corporate world.

The post featured a message from an anonymous individual claiming that he edited his payslip to show a salary of Rs 7 lakh per annum instead of Rs 4 lakh. According to the message, the company then offered him Rs 8.5 lakh based on the fake document. He later used that offer letter to crack another interview and reportedly secured a final package of Rs 12 lakh per annum.

The text shown in the viral post read, “Bhaiyya maine payslip edit karwake 4 lakh ki salary ko 7 bana di… company ko bola 20% hike chahiye to jump… unhone 8.5 ka offer letter diya… ye offer letter dikhake maine ek aur company ka interview crack kiya aur finally 12 ka offer aaya hai.” (Brother, I got my payslip edited and changed my Rs 4 lakh salary to Rs 7 lakh. I told the company that I wanted a 20% hike to switch jobs. They offered me Rs 8.5 lakh. Then I used that offer letter to crack another company’s interview and finally got an offer of Rs 12 lakh.)

Sharing the post, Anmol Garg captioned it, “Bhagwaan sab dekh raha hai,” hinting at the ethical concerns surrounding such practices.

The post quickly went viral on social media, with users flooding the comments section with mixed reactions. While some called the individual “smart” for gaming the system, others criticised the act and warned about the legal and professional consequences of submitting forged salary documents.

One user wrote, “Which school was she working in?? I would love to apply.”

Another person said, “Life is unfair, so take every unfair advantage you have.”

A third user wrote, “I would argue underpaying employees while CEOs enjoy 50 times the salary of the average employee in their company AND bonuses while not even putting one fourth of the hours is ethically wrong.”

“This man is a LEGEND,” said another.

Another user wrote, “Contact me for such edits.”
