'Priorities Have Changed Bhai': Techie Rejects Rs 72 LPA Job Because...

In a time when people are struggling to find jobs, a ₹72 LPA offer would have been accepted with a celebratory LinkedIn post, a mandatory family dinner, and immediate house-hunting. But one person tossed this offer straight into the rejection pile.

A viral post by X user Ragini Pandey has ignited a massive debate online after she shared that her friend walked away from a massive 72 Lakh package without looking back. The reasons? A corporate trifecta of red flags: 5 days strict Work From Office (WFO), absolutely no leave policy, and zero relocation support.

“What shocked me the most? He had zero sense of loss,” Ragini wrote. “It’s fascinating that people like these exist who are willing to let so much money go because of work life balance. Priorities have changed bhai. Money isn’t everything anymore.”

The Internet Reacts

The post quickly resonated with corporate professionals who are increasingly burnt out by toxic workplace demands masked as high remuneration. One user broke down the math behind these seemingly astronomical salaries, pointing out the hidden human cost. One user wrote: “72 LPA salary sounds like combination of 2 employees payment to one and getting work done 16 hours a day 6 days a week. What to do with the money if health issues starts persisting. Bad offer even for a fresher as he/she may die soon due to sudden health issues.”

Another professional shared their own high-paying misery, proving that more money often just means more anxiety: “What should I do..? I am getting 1.1 crore per Annum.. But the problem I need to take calls all time . This makes me getting irritated..”

The collective consensus online seems to point toward a massive cultural shift. The modern workforce is no longer willing to trade their mental and physical health for a heavier bank account. Once basic financial security is met, freedom and time are the new luxury commodities.

As one user pragmatically noted: “Above a certain level and depending upon your wants money doesn’t add anything to your happiness index so a rational person would anyday let go of such a offer.”

To navigate this landscape, professionals are now setting strict personal boundaries before signing on the dotted line. Another user shared a brilliant rule of thumb for anyone currently job hunting: “I have a very simple method of deciding whether an opportunity is worth it or not: 1. Attractive Pay Increase, 2. Work Life Balance, 3. Learning Opportunities. If any of the above 2 are met, I consider, otherwise I don’t.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be the internet without a healthy dose of cynicism. Given the rise of “engagement farming” on social media platforms, some users are questioning if the entire scenario was fabricated for quick views. “Companies start making offers on whatsapp??? Dont fool people in believing this crap,” called out a skeptical observer.
