Samsung will invest an additional Rs 1,000 crore in its Sriperumbudur plant near Chennai, creating 100 new jobs, according to Tamil Nadu’s Industries Minister.
The factory manufactures TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines, contributing significantly to Samsung’s India revenue.
The expansion comes despite recent labour protests at the plant over wage revisions, union recognition, and working conditions.
The minister said the investment reflects Samsung’s trust in Tamil Nadu’s workforce and the State’s continued support for the company.
Tamil Nadu has attracted Rs 10.14 lakh crore in investments since May 2021, generating 32 lakh jobs across key industries including semiconductors, food processing, and technical textiles.
The State leads manufacturing with 31,517 operational factories and a growing IT and GCC sector, with Chennai alone adding 125 new GCCs since 2019 and 94,121 new jobs.
