A man’s job hunting journey seemingly ended up with some ‘racism’, after a recruiter allegedly asked an unexpected question, only to later refuse to take the hiring process forward- citing the ‘closure’ of the position. Taking to the internet, a UAE man shared about the said incident on Reddit. As per the Redditor, a woman- who was recruiting him for an organisation- asked him about his ‘nationality’. After the answer was revealed to the woman, she responded with- ‘the position is currently closed, we are not hiring at the moment’. The man was quick to connect the odd question with the refusal, leading to him feeling furious. The candidate then turned to the internet, asking for their views, along with sharing his speculation over the possibility of the company wanting to blacklist him.
The post, soon after getting shared, went viral. Most pointed out that such questions were illegal in the US, while some ‘congratulated’ the man for not joining a possibly ‘toxic workspace’. Times Now could not confirm the authenticity of the post.
“Asks for my nationality and I respond with it then she tells me this..wtf?” the post read.
“What would you do in this situation? I said something mean but not extremely coz this response just made me boil! Now are they going to blacklist me or what? Lol,” the post read.
“Unfortunately no, this happened in the UAE but either way it could have turned over against me because as the bio says I replied with something mean coz this was frustrating and disappointing especially that I needed a job during that time,” the Redditor’s comment further read.
The post was shared on Reddit, by the handle ‘Unhappy-Percentage-2’. It was shared today and pulled many upvotes from people.
“Just move on. You don’t want to work for such a place anyways,” a user said. “Are you in the US? That’s a lawsuit, especially because you have proof. Do not pass this up,” added a second person.
“As Israeli I had multiple girls unmatch me because of my nationality, and even though it hurts, it’s a good thing since I don’t want to be with those people either way,” commented a third netizen on the comment section.
“If you’re in the United States that is illegal and you have proof,” added a fourth person.
