The following company’s below-mentioned hiring alert seeking interns has not exactly gone viral but is drawing backlash online for being tone-deaf. Here’s how it reads.
We are looking for a Social Media and Video Production intern
- who does not show up at 11:47 AM clutching a matcha tea,
- who at least reads the emails,
- and ideally refrains from using words like SUS and NO CAP in emails
- someone who remembers to come back after the lunch break
- doesn’t expect a gold star for completing basic tasks
- and doesn’t behave like showing up to work is a personal favour to the company
- ps: has an alarm clock that actually works
The JD (job description) posted on the company’s LinkedIn profile states that they are looking for “a smart, creative, and trend-savvy intern to join our content team!” The essential qualifications required are graduation in a media- or communication-related field, experience with videography and editing and updated on Instagram culture and the clichéd “someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.”
Here’s how the internet is reacting to the insensitive hiring post by the company. A creative director at McCann Worldgroup called out the post as crafted in “poor taste” and “petty.” The advertising maverick quipped, “if it’s in an attempt to be funny or to get back at someone, rise above. “
Another user in the comments section jibed, “Writer needs a pepper spray treatment.” A third user remarked that the Pepperfry job advert “instantly draws an image of a GenZ, taking a dig seems to be more important than being fully transparent about what they want.”
Yet another user scathingly commented, “The flow feels like corporate version of hume padhi likhi bahu chahiye jo homely bhi ho. Subah sabse phle uthe…No one wants to hear that.” One user noted that the advert “felt more like a rant than a job description. I mean, there’s Reddit if you do want to rant.”
