The demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) professionals grew 25% on-year in May despite a tepid growth in hiring of white collar workers during the month, according to the latest Naukri JobSpeak Index. The report states the hiring by unicorns saw a robust 19% on-year growth in May.
The report said that the hiring for senior talent – professionals with 15-plus years of experience – grew 6% while in the 4-7 years of work experience bracket, the demand for professionals dipped -3%.
“While the overall index held steady, a deeper dive into the data revealed an uptick in a few pockets like AI/ML (25%). Industries like insurance (6%), real estate (5%), BPO/ITES (4%) and hospitality (+4%) emerged as relative bright spots,” the report said.
The hiring trends in the white collar job market remained steady in May with the Naukri JobSpeak Index ending at 2,807 points, just edging past last year’s base of 2,799 points.
While the overall fresher hiring was flat in May, select non-IT industries, including insurance, real estate and hospitality, stood out with notable growth. “Strong double-digit growth was visible across both metro and emerging cities, with Hyderabad (16%) and Kolkata (13%) leading among metros, while Kochi (23%) and Ahmedabad (13%) stood out among emerging cities,” the report said.
