Amazon India to invest Rs 2000 Cr. in associate safety, employee well-being, overall operations

Amazon India has set aside at least Rs 2000 crore, that is, about $233 million in 2025, to be spent on expanding and upgrading its operations infrastructure, improving the safety of its associates and enhancing the well-being of its employees. The e-commerce giant is committed to building and operating the safest, fastest and most reliable operations network in the country.

As part of this commitment, Amazon India continues to enhance on-road safety by using the latest technologies to alert delivery associates and partners about unsafe speeds and encourage rest breaks. It is investing in tools that measure route complexity and ensure equitable distribution of delivery routes, while allowing adequate time for each delivery.

The driver-onboarding process is also being streamlined, while the Driver app is being enhanced for better earnings transparency and benefit information. A new Helmet Adherence Application will protect delivery associates and partners by verifying proper helmet use before trips begin, sending real-time safety alerts when needed. Additionally, Amazon is also simplifying delivery workflows by making the apps more self-guided, improving navigation for unstructured addresses, and reducing cognitive load with photo and video-based item verification.

Several employee/associate well-being initiatives are already in place. Programmes such as Ashray are already providing dedicated rest points for delivery associates, even those not delivering for Amazon – offering seating, water, charging stations, and washroom facilities. Samridhi, a financial well-being programme s offering financial education and personal finance support to associates and drivers, while Pratidhi is a programme that supports the children of associates with scholarships. Sushruta is yet another initiative that addresses the healthcare needs of truck drivers. Additionally, Amazon provides on-site first-aid facilities as well as insurance coverage to all associates working in its premises and the ones delivering to customers. Recently, it has launched a free health check-up programme, which aims to benefit over 80,000 delivery associates and partners through medical camps by the end of 2025.

It is pertinent to mention here that Amazon’s fulfilment centres are designed to make them safe and more accessible to people with disabilities. The company keeps improving its cooling solutions, safety initiatives, and resting areas regularly to ensure well-being and safety and provide an inclusive work environment.

The investment will also be used to develop new tools and technology for its fulfillment network. Amazon India has already invested in creating an operations network that ensures delivery to all serviceable pin-codes across India.

According to Abhinav Singh, VP – operations, Amazon India and Australia, “By strengthening our infrastructure capabilities, enhancing processing capacity, and implementing state-of-the-art technology, we’re positioning Amazon to better serve customers throughout India while supporting our employees, associates and partners who are the heart of it all.”

Amazon India also plans to launch new sites and upgrade existing facilities across its fulfilment, sortation and delivery network. The investment will enhance processing capacity, improve fulfillment speed, and increase efficiency across the company’s operations network to offer faster and more reliable service to customers across India.
