Amazon to expand corporate pay and perks to Whole Foods staff

Amazon will extend its corporate pay and benefits programmes to Whole Foods Market corporate employees in the US, aiming to create a unified workforce across its grocery divisions. The alignment, set for completion by December 2026, will bring Whole Foods’ corporate teams under the same compensation and benefits structure as Amazon’s wider corporate workforce.

During the transition, Whole Foods staff will retain their in-store discount perks and gain access to Amazon’s employee benefits portal, which provides deals on phone plans, car insurance, travel, and entertainment. They will also receive a 10% discount code on Amazon merchandise. Employees were informed they will have about a month to review their updated job titles, salaries, and benefits.

Amazon spokesperson Lauren Snyder said the change will ensure ‘one consistent experience across teams,’ supporting collaboration across Whole Foods, Amazon Fresh, and Amazon Go. The move comes as Amazon invests more than $4 billion to expand its US delivery network, with a particular focus on rural areas and small towns.

Since acquiring Whole Foods for $13.7 billion in 2017, Amazon has cut prices, integrated the chain into its Prime subscription model, and pushed to grow its grocery footprint to compete with Walmart, Kroger, and Instacart. The latest benefits alignment reflects Amazon’s strategy to standardise its workforce experience while sharpening its competitive edge in the US grocery sector.
