Checking out one’s LinkedIn profile is quite common- much like going through one’s Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), or Facebook handle- with the only difference being the ‘notification’, that goes to the person whose profile is getting surfed. All in all, despite the said ‘LinkedIn alerts’, users mostly do not pay attention to such notifications- as the platform is specifically used for the same purpose- sharing one’s professional updates and achievements. With something similar in mind, a Redditor decided to check out an office senior’s LinkedIn profile. However, what happened next left the employee feeling confused and somewhat shocked. Allegedly, the senior was left offended, resulting in passing ‘passing-aggressive comments’ on the Redditor.
Confused about the situation, the Redditor turned to the internet, asking if he did anything ‘inappropriate’. He further pointed out how checking a person’s- specifically a colleague’s- LinkedIn profile is not exactly rare. The post went viral and left many reactions. Most sided with the Redditor, and chastised the office senior mentioned in the post. Times Now could not confirm the authenticity of the incident.
“Got called out for viewing a senior’s LinkedIn profile, was I really in the wrong?” the post read.
“So this happened today. I checked out a senior colleague’s LinkedIn profile, didn’t send a message, didn’t send a connection request, literally just visited their profile. Later, I got some passive-aggressive comments about it, like I was creeping or something. I always thought LinkedIn was literally meant for people to look each other up professionally plus it’s a public platform, I mean, it even shows who’s viewed your profile unless you’re in private mode. Is this actually considered inappropriate in any way? Genuinely curious, was I out of line or is this just office weirdness?” the post further read.
The post was shared on Reddit, by the handle ‘OsamaBeenLagging_119’. The post was shared a while back and pulled many reactions.
“Not inappropriate at all, what was the comment,” a user said. “I generally reply with a stern and crist- do we have a problem then?- followed by- does this impact my performance or your ability to work?- Shuts them up every-time,” added another person.
“That guy has a LinkedIn premium for sure. Either way, no harm in seeing a profile. Even I saw the profile of my office head and didn’t send a request,” added a third person. “Either he is insecure or is hiding something. Maybe he thought you are connecting the dots to find out his lies and fake stuff,” wrote another.
“As someone who works for an MNC in a global industry, I often end up in calls where people are joining from across the globe. Most of the times I end up looking up the senior folks on the call on LinkedIn to get a better sense of their background, which helps the conversation too. Nothing wrong here OP,” added another.
