Boeing reworks company values as employee morale takes a hit

Boeing is undertaking a major cultural reset after internal findings revealed a sharp decline in employee morale and pride in the organisation. The move follows the results of a company-wide survey, the first of its kind in five years, which showed that only 67 per cent of employees felt proud to work at Boeing—a steep drop from 91 per cent recorded in a 2013 survey.

As a rectification measure, the company has launched initiatives aimed at redefining its core values and workplace culture. A dedicated working group has been formed to guide this transformation. The leadership has also conducted several employee meetings across the organisation to gather feedback and build consensus on the cultural direction Boeing should take going forward.

These efforts come at a critical time for the aerospace giant, which has faced a string of high-profile setbacks over the past year. Production issues, safety concerns, and multiple lawsuits have put Boeing under intense scrutiny. Its flagship 737 Max programme has been the subject of federal oversight, with the Federal Aviation Administration imposing limits on monthly output due to quality control lapses.

Adding to its troubles, Boeing faced a major strike by machinists at its Pacific Northwest facilities that lasted nearly two months and ended in November 2024. The disruption further delayed production timelines and affected workforce sentiment.

This cultural makeover is a step towards rebuilding trust internally and externally. With legal challenges still ongoing—including a recent lawsuit from the family of whistleblower John “Mitch” Barnett, who died in 2024—Boeing is aiming for commitment to accountability, transparency, and long-term improvement. The company hopes to revive employee engagement and ensure a renewed sense of purpose and shared values for a stronger future.
