A State Bank of India (SBI) employee from Punjab has raised concerns over intense work pressure during extreme weather conditions. He highlighted the challenges of meeting sales targets, especially for personal accidental insurance, while dealing with the impact of heavy rains and floods in the region.
Sales Pressure During Floods
The employee stated that despite the severe floods and continuous heavy rainfall in Punjab, he was scolded in the evening for not being able to complete personal accidental insurance sales. The response he reportedly received was a comparison with other regions, asking how those areas were still able to achieve targets.
Sales and Targets
According to the statement, the employee, unable to meet the sales requirement, purchased insurance using his own family’s money. He also mentioned that management frequently sets 5–6 sales target logins in a week, making it difficult to balance responsibilities.
Reactions on Social Media
On Twitter (X) Users across regions shared similar experiences, calling it a “common practice” in SBI and criticising the bank’s management for toxic work culture.
The employee concluded by questioning whether a single staff member should manage branch operations or step out to meet sales targets, highlighting the challenge of dual responsibilities.
Reports have also highlighted target-related concerns in the bank. From pressure to sell SBI Life Insurance policies to changes in focus within SBI Mutual Fund, and broader questions about privatisation, these issues reflect the growing emphasis on sales over service.
