Fears around artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace seem to only continue to grow. Resume Now’s AI Value & Vulnerability Report surveyed more than 1,000 U.S. workers– 41% of whom say AI is already replacing, devaluing, or overlapping with parts of their job. Nearly a third say that AI could effectively complete at least half of their daily work tasks.
This shifts AI’s role as a tool to that of a competitor, Resume Now says.
Keith Spencer, career expert at Resume Now says, “As employees incorporate AI into their roles, many are seeing parts of their job coincide with these tools, which can make once-core responsibilities feel less distinct or less valuable. What’s missing for many workers is clarity around how AI fits into their role and how their own contributions continue to create value as these tools become more capable.”
Despite the overlap in workload, employees are still divided on whether AI is even worth the time. While 54% of surveyed professionals say they are confident that AI tools improve productivity, 46% say they aren’t.
Survey respondents also said:
- AI has not changed how they use or develop their skills (55%);
- AI supports their work but doesn’t replace it (41%)
- AI has helped them learn new skills faster or expand what they can do (36%);
- AI enhances their role and increases the value of their expertise (18%); and
- AI has decreased how much they rely on their own skills (9%).
