DTI to create over 132,000 jobs in the Philippines

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has announced that more than 132,000 jobs will be created from the ₱3.38 trillion worth of approved investments channelled through the Strategic Investment Priority Plan (SIPP) from mid-2022 to the end of 2024.

According to the DTI, the majority of new employment opportunities will be concentrated in administrative and support services, the power sector, and manufacturing, highlighting the plan’s emphasis on labour-intensive industries. The power sector alone accounts for over 76% of the total capital inflow under SIPP, followed by major investments in information and communication, transport and storage, and mining and quarrying.

Trade Secretary Cristina Roque stressed that these investments are intended to generate tangible livelihoods for Filipinos and lay a robust foundation for a sustainable and competitive economy. Trade Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo added that SIPP is helping position the Philippines as a future hub for innovation and green growth.

SIPP, which aligns with the CREATE Act and Republic Act 12066, identifies priority sectors eligible for government incentives. The DTI is currently coordinating with other agencies and stakeholders to shape the 2025–2028 SIPP, which will emphasise high-impact, value-added projects, particularly in manufacturing, to maximise job creation.
