An employee shared a frustrating experience on Reddit after driving to the office early in the morning for a “mandatory strategy session” that was later postponed. The user said, “I left my house at 6:30 AM for a “mandatory strategy session.” Traffic was brutal. I paid for parking, walked five minutes to the office, and just as I was scanning my badge in, I got a Teams message.”
The message read, “Hey everyone, meeting postponed to next week. Just join remote if you’re already in.”
Wasted Time and Resources Draw Criticism
“I don’t hate the office, I hate the waste. The time, the gas, the energy… for things that could’ve been a link in my calendar,” the Redditor wrote, highlighting the growing frustration with inefficient in-person meetings.
Other users chimed in with similar experiences. One wrote, “I have a similar experience. It was winter and I had an in-person meeting scheduled, and snow was in the forecast. I live two hours away, so I came up the night before. At the time of the meeting it hadn’t even started snowing yet, but they decided last minute to move the meeting online ‘due to weather’. I attended the meeting from the office, then had to drive home in the snow after the meeting.”
Another user shared a travel-related ordeal, saying, “My last company announced a leadership conference in Dubai. There were 7 people that were included in the trip and 1 of them was me but I found out my passport had expired. Due to some stupid legislation in my country I could only get my passport renewed from my hometown (5 hours drive from my current place residence) and only gave us till the end of the week to submit our passports. I had to drive to my hometown overnight, apply for express delivery which was 50% more expensive and then drive back after 3 days with my passport. Once I came to the office to submit my passport and other documents, I got informed the trip was cancelled. So yeah, I understand what you are feeling.”
