In the fiscal year 2024-2025, about 207,000 Indian nationals were granted H-1B visas to work in the United States.
Indians have made up around 72% of all H-1B recipients in recent years, making them the largest group. For the H-1B program in FY 2025, around 135,000 people were selected from over 470,000 applicants, with Indians being the majority.

While the focus is on H-1B visas as the main culprit for job cuts, the bigger issue is offshoring. Meta’s shift away from its US workforce in favour of building operations abroad is a huge trend that isreshaping the industry. It is no surprise that landing a job at big tech in the US has become tougher.
According to the post, by 2025, the US will account for 50% of Meta’s workforce, down from 75% in 2015. This significant shift coincides with the company’s decision to offshore work to other countries, which is in line with a larger global workforce expansion trend.
India’s share of Meta’s workforce is predicted to rise significantly from 8% in 2015 to 13% by 2025. With a highly skilled labour force and affordable operating costs, India is becoming a more significant tech hub. By investing in India, Meta is making clear abour its intention to capitalise on the nation’s expanding technology industry and take advantage of its affordable labour.
Other offshore areas, especially Singapore and the Philippines, are expected to grow significantly in addition to India by 2025, their combined workforce share is expected to increase from almost zero to 34%. This also signifies a change in focus towards these regions as crucial sites for Meta’s international activities. Ireland, on the other hand, maintains a steady 3-4% workforce share, making it a reliable European location for Meta’s operations. The company’s changing strategy to create a more diverse and globally dispersed workforce is reflected in this change in workforce distribution as Meta continues its global expansion.
