India Projects 35 Million Green Jobs By 2047

India’s green economy is on a transformative trajectory, with projections indicating the creation of 7.29 million green jobs by the fiscal year 2027–28 and a total of 35 million by 2047. This surge is fueled by significant investments in renewable energy, electric vehicles (EVs), sustainable construction, and waste management sectors.

The evolving green job landscape is not confined to traditional roles. There’s a notable rise in demand for professionals skilled in ESG analytics, climate data analysis, and green technology. These roles are experiencing an annual growth rate of 20–30%, reflecting the sector’s dynamic nature .

Furthermore, the green job boom is extending beyond metropolitan areas. Tier II and III cities such as Jaipur, Indore, Visakhapatnam, and Coimbatore are emerging as significant hubs, expected to host 35–40% of the projected green jobs by FY28. This shift underscores the widespread impact of the green economy across various regions .

However, challenges persist, particularly concerning gender diversity. Currently, women constitute only 11–12% of the green workforce, primarily due to limited access to technical education and cultural constraints. Efforts are underway to address this imbalance through inclusive hiring practices and targeted skill development programs, aiming to improve gender parity by 12–15% over the next 5–6 years .

As India advances towards its ambitious green economy goals, the emphasis on skill-based hiring, technological integration, and inclusive growth will be pivotal in shaping a sustainable and equitable future.
