While 7.6 per cent job posting in October of 2024 specifically offered work-from-home options, this figure went up to 9.1 per cent in October of 2025. These Indian job postings clearly used the term ‘work from home’ or ‘remote work ’ in their job descriptions. Also, the postings for human resources roles went up 2.3 per cent.
As per a report by Indeed, in October 2025, the sectors that offered the maximum number of remote work options were information technology (IT) infrastructure, operations and support (18.2 per cent), followed by community and social service (15.1 per cent) and industrial engineering (14 per cent).
The IT infrastructure, operations and support space is also where the share of remote work has increased the maximum in the last one year, going up by 4.4 percentage points. Such openings in the installation and maintenance sector have also gone up by 3.4 percentage points.
On the other hand, veterinary-related remote jobs have dipped by 2.5 per centage points, while community and social-service remote jobs have dipped by 1.9 percentage points.
In the October quarter, the share of remote job openings had increased in 84 per cent of job categories compared to the same period the previous year.
However, formal job openings did decline in India with postings dipping 5.6 per cent on the Indeed platform in October compared to September. The postings had fallen 19.8 per cent compared to the same time last year. That said, Indian job postings are 60 per cent better than pre-pandemic levels, even though they have dipped 25 per cent ever since they surged in January of 2023.
