Offering relief to hundreds of aspirants who miss out on government jobs due to age constraints, the Odisha government has increased the upper age limit from 32 to 42 years.
The State Cabinet meeting chaired by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Wednesday (May 28, 2025) approved the proposal to increase the upper age limit following receipt of numerous representations from different quarters for enhancement of the upper age limit to enable the over-aged aspirants to participate in the upcoming recruitment process.
As per a statement issued by government, the upper age limit for entry into government service is governed under the Odisha Civil Service (Fixation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 1989. As per the provisions contained under rule 2 of the said rules, the upper age limit for entry into government service is 32.
The revised upper age limit will not be applicable to for uniform services like police, fire services, forest, excise services and where physical efficiency test is mandatory.
It was said the upper age limit can further be relaxable in case of scheduled tribe, scheduled caste, Socially Educational Backward Class, ex-servicemen and people with disabilities as prescribed by the government from time to time.
Odisha Al Mission
Meanwhile, Odisha government has announced to come up with Odisha Artificial Intelligence Policy 2025 for improving governance, stimulating innovation, enhancing data-driven decision-making and enabling inclusive socio-economic development.
As per the policy, being touted as State’s broader digital transformation agenda and objective to embed Al across sectors, a dedicated Odisha Al Mission will be created which will serve as the apex institutional mechanism to implement Al initiatives across departments, facilitate use case development, coordinate pilot projects, and provide support to public agencies, startups and academic institutions.
The policy identifies high-impact Al use cases across critical sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, climate change and disaster management, and governance. These include Al-assisted disease prediction and screening, smart irrigation and crop diagnostics and multilingual Al, says the government.
