The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has written to Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, raising concerns over Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) delay in onboarding over 600 experienced lateral hires. The letter to the ministry highlights that there has been no communication on the timeline of this onboarding, leaving many techies high and dry.
The NITES has urged the intervention from the Labour Ministry, highlighting the impact of these ‘indefinite delays’ in the onboarding processes. The letter sent on July 22 states that despite having a formal offer letter, many employees, ranging from two years to 18 years of experience, are affected by the current situation. These employees have formally resigned from their previous organisation and currently have no other job, making it difficult for them to pay their EMIs, rent, and installments.
“Beyond the financial strain, the emotional and psychological distress caused by this sudden state of uncertainty is deeply worrying,” a TOI report quoted Harpreet Singh Saluja, president of NITES and an advocate at the Bombay High Court.
“Every day, we receive desperate calls and emails from professionals who feel abandoned and deceived.”
What TCS Said On The Matter
The tech giant has reiterated that the company will honour all its responsibilities and everybody who was sent the offer letter will be onboarded.
“We can confirm that, as always, TCS is committed to honour all offers we have made, whether it is to freshers or experienced professionals. Everyone who has received an offer from TCS, will be onboarded. The joining dates are decided as per business demand and in some cases, they do get adjusted to meet our business needs. We remain in continuous touch with all candidates in these cases and look forward to them joining our company soon,” the company said.
NITES has formally approached the Labour Ministry, urging it to intervene and press Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for clear timelines regarding the onboarding of delayed candidates. The organisation is also demanding financial compensation for the waiting period, access to mental health support via TCS’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and consideration of alternative roles within the company for those affected.
