Over 50% Indian job posts reveal salary, finds survey

Salary transparency is fast gaining ground in India’s job market, with more employers choosing to disclose pay details in job listings—a shift driven by candidate expectations for openness and fairness. According to new data from job platform Indeed, more than half of the job postings on its India site now include salary information, up from just 26% in March 2022.

By early 2025, this number had crossed the 50% mark—up from 47% at the end of 2023—highlighting a major cultural and strategic shift in recruitment. The trend is being fuelled by job seekers increasingly seeking clarity, equity, and the ability to make informed decisions when considering opportunities.

“While disclosing pay early is becoming a key advantage in attracting talent, there’s still more work to be done to make salary transparency the norm,” said Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India. “Once considered a nice-to-have, it is fast becoming a core pillar of modern employer branding. In a competitive market, transparency is the new currency for attracting top talent.”

Indeed’s findings are backed by a survey conducted by Valuvox among over 1,100 employers and 2,500 job seekers and employees, examining job postings on the platform between March 2022 and June 2025.

Biggest transparency in salaries is found in remote and hybrid roles

One of the biggest pockets of transparency is found in remote and hybrid roles. With candidates often applying from diverse locations and salary expectations varying widely across geographies, upfront pay disclosure has become vital for employers to draw relevant, high-quality applications. These flexible roles now consistently lead in terms of salary visibility.

However, transparency still varies across job levels. Senior leadership roles remain the most guarded, with only 13% of listings sharing salary ranges. In contrast, junior and mid-level roles show the highest openness, with 32% of listings disclosing pay. Entry-level jobs follow closely at 28%, reflecting growing efforts to appeal to younger professionals who now see salary transparency as a non-negotiable.

Sectors that are leading

Industry-wise, sectors such as IT servicesBFSI, consulting, manufacturing, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods are leading the charge. Across these industries, 35% of job postings now include pay details. Employers cite faster hiring cycles, better-quality applications, and stronger candidate engagement as key benefits.

Indeed’s data also reveals that 62% of job seekers actively prefer listings that display salary information. Transparent postings receive significantly more clicks, saves, and applications—pointing to a clear shift in hiring dynamics and job seeker behaviour.

As transparency continues to evolve from a perk to a priority, employers who embrace it early may well find themselves ahead in the race for top talent.
