Pune Tech Firm Cheats 75 Techies Of Crores By Promising Jobs

A major job fraud case has emerged from Pune, where a multinational IT company and a human resource consulting firm allegedly cheated several computer engineers of crores of rupees by falsely promising employment and later terminating them without paying salaries. The scam came to light when the victims raised their concerns during Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s ‘Jansamvad’ public grievance program. Taking note of the issue, Pawar instructed the Pune Police Commissioner to take strict action, following which a case was officially registered against both the IT company’s CEO and the HR consultancy’s management.

Engineer Duped with Fake Job Offer After Paying ₹1 Lakh to HR Firm

According to the complaint filed at Bavdhan Police Station, the victim, a computer engineer who had completed his Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) course, was seeking a job when he came in contact with the HR firm based in Magarpatta. The firm allegedly demanded money in exchange for job placement in a reputed multinational IT company with offices in Bavdhan Khurd, and claimed to have branches in the United States, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the United Kingdom (UK).

After an interview, the complainant was informed that he had been selected for the post of Junior Software Engineer and was asked to deposit ₹1 lakh to receive an official offer letter. He transferred the amount on August 8, 2024, to the consultancy’s bank account and received the offer letter the following day via email. The complainant joined the company on September 2, 2024, and worked there until November 2, 2024, after which he was suddenly dismissed without explanation and was denied two months’ salary.

Investigations have revealed that nearly 75 engineers faced similar treatment. Five victims alone were defrauded of ₹9.75 lakh, while the total fraud runs into crores, according to the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) President, Pavanjit Mane. The accused failed to register employees for Provident Fund (PF) or other legal benefits and conspired to exploit job seekers through fake promises.

The Pune Police have initiated a detailed probe, examining financial records, documents, and emails from both companies. Charges have been filed under IPC Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420(cheating), and 506(criminal intimidation).

Summary:

A massive job fraud in Pune has exposed an IT company and an HR consultancy that duped over 75 engineers of crores by promising jobs, taking money, and later firing them without pay. Acting on complaints raised during Ajit Pawar’s ‘Jansamvad’, Pune Police filed charges and began a detailed probe.
