A final-year student from the University of Delhi (DU) – who comes from a tier-3 city – shared how he landed an internship of Rs 50,500 per month despite several personal and financial challenges. His story of resilience has impressed the internet.
The now-viral Reddit post, titled “Probably the lowest earner here, but the happiest I’ve ever been,” featured the journey of the student who once survived with just Rs 5,000 per month, to how he eventually secured an internship offering a monthly stipend of Rs 50,500.
“I’m from a small tier-3 city. My dad is mentally unstable and has never had a proper job. We survived on Rs 5,000 per month, thanks to my uncle, who gave him a job at his shop,” he said in his post. His father’s earnings from his uncle’s shop were the family’s only income while he was growing up.
Further, he added, “I got shortlisted to a better college, but I knew my family couldn’t afford it. Even a loan wasn’t an option. So I joined DU for B.Com and started working early.” While he was still in class 12, he landed his first-ever internship at a Mumbai-based marketing agency, earning Rs 6,000 per month.
“Since then, I’ve just kept going. Learned, worked, built slowly,” he added. At the age of 21, he had already secured a pre-placement offer (PPO) from the company, which had been previously paying him a monthly stipend of Rs 50,500.
“I also have an amazing girlfriend, kind, supportive. We even go on trips now every month (something I never imagined growing up),” the student said as he concluded his post.
Reddit users had a lot to add in response to his post. “Way to go, bro. Happiness comes from within, and you have done it so well that you will only go ahead from here! More power and blessings,” a user said.
Another user added, “More power to you. Peace is often something we can’t find, irrespective of the place we try to fit, and to see you happy and in equal gratitude for everything you’ve got now, only to grow more up ahead, fills me with joy. Cheers man. Hope you grow more.”
“Now that’s a real flex I would call, the real flex is having come up from a struggle to a place where you and your mind feel at peace, and the lovely partner of yours. God bless you both,” said a user.
The internet was delighted by the student’s journey and flooded the comments section with heartwarming reactions like those mentioned above.
