StatsCan is hiring for 32,000 jobs across Canada that pay pretty well

Statistics Canada is hiring tens of thousands of Canadians as it prepares to conduct the 2026 Census of Population this spring.

The country’s national statistical agency is currently seeking nearly 32,000 people to become census enumerators and crew leaders across the country.

StatsCan will conduct the next census starting in May 2026 to “paint a statistical portrait of Canada’s diverse population and the places where we live.”

“Every five years, the Census of Population and the Census of Agriculture capture the most complete and accurate portrait of Canada, providing invaluable insights about our country,” said André Loranger, chief statistician of Canada, in a release. “These are data that matter, and it all begins by asking the right questions.

“A lot of work and consultation go into the development of the census questionnaires. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to this work by sharing their feedback and taking part in census tests. This will ensure the census continues to deliver the reliable data Canadians have come to expect.”

StatsCan‘s census collects demographic data on every Canadian citizen. The information is also used by governments, businesses, and organizations to plan services that support public transportation, employment, health care, schools, and more.

The Census of Agriculture will be conducted at the same time to gather information about agricultural operations in the country.

Enumerators work part-time and have varied schedules, with most of the work being in the evening and on weekends.

They are paid $25.87 per hour plus authorized expenses such as mileage and parking.

Enumerators collect questionnaires from households, follow up with respondents, and ship completed questionnaires.

Crew leaders are paid $31.23 an hour to train, lead and supervise a team. Successful applicants must be available for full-time work, including daytimes, evenings and weekends.

In select Northern and remote communities, the census pay rate is $35.79 per hour for non-supervisors and $37.79 per hour for supervisors, as well as authorized expenses.

To be considered for a StatsCan job, applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or possess a valid work permit. They must be at least 18 years old, live in Canada and have a Canadian home address.

StatsCan stated online that it is currently focused on hiring in select northern and remote communities, and that hiring across Canada will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
