Taiwan to hire around 8,000 migrant workers in the hospitality sector

Taiwan is set to hire around 8,000 migrant workers, primarily Filipinos, for roles in its hotel and hospitality sectors to address rising labour demand driven by tourism growth. The jobs, expected to open in the second half of 2025, will include housekeeping, cleaning, and mid-level reception positions, according to migration expert Emmanuel Geslani.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Labour and hotel industry stakeholders are finalising guidelines for the recruitment of migrant workers, with plans to accommodate the expected surge in tourist arrivals, projected to reach 10 million by the end of 2025, up from 8 million in 2024.

The proposed roles offer a starting monthly salary of NT$30,000 (₱57,000), higher than factory positions, with no limit on overtime, allowing monthly earnings to reach ₱70,000–₱80,000.Apart from the hospitality sector, Taiwan is also experiencing shortages in hospital care assistance, logistics, warehousing, and transportation services. Foreign students may also be allowed to work part-time under revised labour policies.

Currently, there are about 160,000 Filipino workers in Taiwan, with 140,000 in factories and the rest employed as caregivers. The country’s ageing population continues to create sustained demand for care workers, positioning Taiwan as a viable labour market for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) seeking new opportunities in hospitality, healthcare, and logistics.
