A post on X is going viral, sparking online discussion about workplace loyalty and employee value. Shared by @Simon_Ingari, the post highlights the story of a man who was laid off after eight years of service.
According to the post, the employee was laid off during a company restructuring without any warning or severance. He received only a thank you email and was asked to leave, despite years of commitment.
“After 8 years of loyalty and commitment, he was laid off during restructuring. The company didn’t issue a warning or severance, just a thank you email and a box, the post read.”
However, two months later, the same company reached out to him with a new offer of a ‘consultant’. During the salary negotiation, the company proposed a salary 30 per cent lower than his previous pay, urging him to show loyalty and commitment.
“It’s 30% less than your previous salary, this is the time to show loyalty and commitment to the company.”
The man declined the offer and continued searching for new opportunities. Within a month, he secured a new role with a 40 per cent salary increase and an additional 20 per cent annual bonus.
“He declined and continued applying and interviewing for roles in his field. A month later, he landed a new role with a 40% salary increase and a 20% annual bonus.”
The viral post concluded with a clear message that respect at work must be mutual, and companies cannot expect commitment without offering value in return.
“If companies don’t value their employees, they can’t expect them to stick around.”
The post has resonated with many users online, especially professionals who have faced similar situations.
One user wrote, “Corporate Truth: If you don’t set boundaries, your availability becomes your job description.”
