The journey to get into a job is not an easy journey. Each of us goes through a series of tests and interviews, and receiving the offer letter can be a challenging task. At times, when you do not make it, some companies also send out rejection letters. A Reddit post is now sparking debate online after a job seeker shared a rejection email which she described as “insulting” and “tone-deaf” during her year-long job hunt.
What exactly did the rejection letter say?
In a Reddit post, the applicant shared the rejection letter she received for a role at an unnamed company. She wrote, “I personally feel that a job rejection email is not the time to flex your creative copywriting skills,” she wrote. “It’s truly more insulting than ghosting or an email containing only ‘No.’ The rock, paper, scissors part truly makes me feel rock bottom. I’ve been on the job hunt for about a year and this was my lowest point.”
The letter read, “Thank you for sharing your talents with us for the — position at [Company]! We loved getting to know you and hearing about your adventures. After much deliberation (and a few rounds of “Rock, Paper, Scissors” among our team), we’ve decided to move forward with another candidate for this role. It turns out they had just the right sparkle we needed for this particular quest.
It further read, “But don’t hang up your cape just yet! We encourage you to keep an eye on our careers page for future opportunities, there’s always room for more heroes in the [Company] universe!. Thank you once again for your application. Wishing you a treasure trove of luck in your job search and magical adventures ahead.”
‘ChatGPT could do better’
Netizens were furious over the rejection letter posted on social media. A user wrote, “HR definitely used “infantilizing mom encouragement voice” prompt on ChatGPT.”
Another added, “I want to be told I was rejected because I didn’t have enough sparkle. I’ll go to my next interview with tiddy glitter all over my face. Maybe they’ll pick me then.”
“Lean into your Twilight cosplay next time you interview there. Prance around the interview room tossing glitter in the air. They want sparkle – make it be rainbow farting unicorn sparkle,” added a user.
A netizen wrote, “Our company is nerd friendly! We will decide your status based on Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock.”
“Good to know my future livelihood is being decided with rock, paper, scissors,” wrote another user.
