‘We don’t know. Vacate the premises’: Infosys faces backlash for reportedly denying a crying female employee’s plea to stay overnight

Infosys recently fired over 300 employees at its Mysuru campus after they failed multiple internal assessments. According to a report by Moneycontrol, the terminated trainees were asked to leave the campus the same day. Despite requests to stay the night, the company reportedly denied their pleas.

A fired trainee told Moneycontrol that a female colleague, also terminated, begged the management to let her stay overnight. “Please let me stay the night. I will leave tomorrow. Where will I go right now,” she pleaded on February 7. However, Infosys officials reportedly responded, “We don’t know. You are no longer part of the company. Vacate the premises by 6 pm.”

Infosys’ stance on layoffs
The affected trainees had undergone foundational training at the Mysuru campus but failed to clear internal assessments after three attempts, according to sources cited by PTI. Infosys stated that all freshers must pass these assessments to continue with the company.
“At Infosys, we have a rigorous hiring process where all freshers, after undergoing extensive foundational training at our Mysuru campus, are expected to clear internal assessments,” the company stated. “All freshers get three attempts to clear the assessment, failing which they will not be able to continue with the organisation. This clause is also mentioned in their contract.”

Employee union alleges larger impact
The IT employee union NITES claimed that the number of affected freshers was much higher than reported. The union has threatened to file an official complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, demanding urgent intervention and action against Infosys.

Many of the terminated employees had waited over two years after receiving offer letters before finally joining Infosys. They were let go within months of starting their jobs.
