An Indian professional with an MBA from the HEC Paris and a decade of global experience has turned to Reddit to share his frustrating job search journey as he attempts to return to India. Despite an impressive resume that includes a senior managerial role in AI and digital strategy at an industrial company in Germany, the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) says he has had no luck securing opportunities back home.
The individual, who holds an engineering degree from PSG Tech in Tamil Nadu, wrote that he has applied to hundreds of roles over the past two years — including managerial and senior positions across industrial, tech, and startup sectors. Applications were made via LinkedIn, staffing firms like Michael Page, and directly on company websites with tailored cover letters. Yet, not a single callback has materialized.
“I am applying to roles below my current position as well as senior manager roles and above,” the NRI explained, questioning what might be going wrong. He noted that while he has occasionally received messages from recruiters and companies within the EU, responses from Indian employers have been nonexistent.
The Reddit post has sparked discussions around the challenges faced by returning NRIs, including cultural fit concerns, overqualification, lack of local networking, and differences in hiring practices.
With experience in both the automotive and industrial sectors and a strong academic background, the NRI remains puzzled and is now seeking community advice to navigate what he calls a “silent wall” in his job hunt.
The story highlights a growing trend where qualified professionals abroad are finding it increasingly difficult to reintegrate into the Indian job market — despite India’s booming tech and industry sectors.
