Hiring for white collar jobs increased by 20% year-on-year (YoY) in June, driven by opportunities in Tier II markets, PTI reported on Wednesday, citing data from Foundit.in tracker.
According to the tracker, India’s Tier II cities continued to drive the country’s employment growth. The Foundit Insights Tracker is based on online job posting activity on Foundit.in.

Coimbatore saw a rise in opportunities with a growth of 26%, followed by Nagpur and Nasik with a growth rate of 24% each, majorly driven by sectors including IT, BFSI, Manufacturing and FMCG.
“The hiring momentum shift towards Tier II cities, especially in IT and entry-level roles, is notable. Job seekers now have diverse opportunities closer to home, reflecting India’s rich and varied talent landscape. For employers, these cities offer strategic opportunities for sustained growth, driven by improved infrastructure, targeted investments, and the strategic intent to diversify geographically,” the PTI report quoted Pranay Kale, Foundit’s Chief Revenue and Growth Officer (CRGO), as saying.
The growth in June is the strongest seen in recent years, highlighting the importance of II cities in India’s employment landscape, Kale said.
The monthly report also revealed that while Tier II cities grew 28% YoY, major metro cities like Delhi-NCR, Chennai and Bengaluru saw comparatively slower growth at 5%, 18% and 16%.
Further, the IT industry saw exceptional growth in Tier II cities, climbing 53% YoY, way ahead of the national average, which is at 30%, the report said.
Other sectors, including Logistics and Transportation and Energy, also saw a jump of 42% and 38% in hiring, respectively, contributing significantly to the overall growth in these markets.
