A fresh debate around toxic workplace culture has erupted online after a video showing a heated exchange between a manager and an employee during a Teams call went viral. The clip, which captures the manager shouting at the employee for refusing to work on a Sunday, has drawn widespread criticism for highlighting issues around boundaries, overtime expectations and workplace intimidation.
The video was shared on Instagram by Mohit Panday and appears to show an internal team call where the manager insists that employees report to the office despite it being a weekend. Citing company losses, the manager is heard saying that everyone must come in and work overtime.
The employee pushes back, questioning why he should be asked to work on a Sunday and stating clearly that he would rather quit than comply. The exchange quickly escalates, with the manager responding aggressively, saying the company does not differentiate between weekdays and weekends and warning that no extra pay would be given for working on Sundays.
In a particularly disturbing moment, the manager threatens to file a police complaint if the employee quits and demands that he show up on Monday to “settle the matter.” The employee, however, stands firm, reiterating his decision to resign and refusing to tolerate what he calls rude and unacceptable behaviour at the workplace.
The clip spread rapidly across social media, with many users rallying behind the employee and calling out the manager’s conduct as unprofessional and abusive. Several commenters shared personal experiences of resisting similar demands, stressing the importance of setting boundaries and respecting time off.
Others used the incident to point out a deeper issue within Indian work culture, arguing that long hours and weekend work are often rewarded over productivity and efficiency. Some users, however, questioned the authenticity of the clip, suggesting it could be staged for online attention, even as the broader discussion on toxic workplaces continued to gain traction.
